Camp Eagle, Operating Location-4, Detachment 32, 5th Weather Squadron, personnel moved from Bien Hoa Air Base to Gia Le and thence to Camp Eagle. By 22 March 1968 the entire weather complex had achieved a look of semi-permanence. Throughout April, Empty ammunition cases were collected, wood and equipment scrounged, and furniture and floors built and installed. By 15 June, the weather station tent had been framed in wood, side walls of plywood installed, and screening emplaced. USAF PHOTO

Camp Evans, Operating Location-2, Detachment 31, 5th Weather Squadron. On 29 January 1968 a new tent and bunker complex was completed after the move of the OL personnel from An Khe to Camp Evans. By 01 May 1968 enough empty ammunition cases had been collected to floor all but one tent. On 19 May 1968 the entire weather complex was leveled by shock and blast waves from exploding ammunition pallets. Reconstruction began immediately and the weather complex became operational on 22 May 1968. USAF PHOTO

Staff Sergeant Emmette W. Woods (Observer) received a slight shrapnel wound. The weather living area was destroyed and the weather station area heaving damaged. Sales totaled $3,425.00. Staff Sergeant Bready was the Civic Actions team leader. He helped the medical officers, acted as translator, and distributed used lumber and clothing. During this period, major emphasis was placed on improving the living conditions of 1st Weather Group personnel throughout Southeast Asia. Typical was the program of weather units on Tan Son Nhut, whereby personnel were provided desks, rugs, bedspreads, and lamps the barracks were tiled, and one barracks was partitioned into rooms, providing with floor and ceiling tile, and designated for senior weather noncommissioned officers (SNCOs).
