Phillips Airfield, Aberdeen Proving Ground,MD
Photos taken 12 OCT 1955 from the control
tower at Phillips Field, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland .
One photo shows the Instrument Shelter, Rain Gauge, and Ceilometer
before they were moved in 1957. One photo was taken from the
weather detachment’s instrument shelter and shows the front of the
Operations building and control tower. In the photos there is one
modern fighter (F86) and scores of discarded WWII aircraft. A couple
of operational B-17’s are shown. I was stationed at Weather
Detachment 27, 4th Weather Group, at Phillips Field when the Field was
deactivated in late 1957. I salvaged these photos from the trash.
If some one in AWS History would like these photos let me know and I
will mail them. I offered them to APG but did not get a response.
