COLONEL GERARD D. WITTMAN

Colonel Gerard D. Wittman is deputy chief, force enhancement division, directorate of operations, Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. The force enhancement division is responsible for providing policy and operational oversight of all missile warning; communications, navigation, and weather satellite control; information dominance; weather; and space environment operations for Air Force Space Command.

Colonel Wittman was born September 15, 1950 in Princeton, Indiana. He entered the Air Force in 1972 as a graduate of the University of Louisville Reserve Officer Training Corps program. The colonel, a Master Meteorologist, began his career as a weather forecaster for pilot training (T-37 and T-38), fighter (F-4), and tactical airlift (C-130) operations. As an Air Staff acquisition manager, he obtained essential funding for critical space launch, satellite command and control, and spacecraft programs. During his second Pentagon tour, he directed a joint Air Force-Navy initiative to enhance interservice cooperation in military weather operations. He has commanded a weather detachment and squadron and has also served in a number of operational and staff positions.

Colonel Wittman is married to the former Carolyn Kenny of Great Falls, Montana. They have four children: Lori, Meredeth, Rachel and Michael.
