AWA and AFW AWARD WINNERS

    Brig. Gen. Fred P. Lewis, Air Force Director of Weather (AF/XOW) announced the winners of the 1999 Air Force Weather Awards on 19 April 2000.

    The accompanying message from the USAF/XO, stated, “It is with great pleasure that we announce the winners of the 1999 Air Force Weather awards. Selecting winners was especially challenging this year. All AFW people performed superbly during a difficult and turbulent 1999 to rapidly bring the benefits of AFW reengineering to fruition. Thus, this year's award winners typify an unprecedented level of effort and contribution by all of AFW.  The culmination of their efforts has paid definite dividends and has resulted in unparalleled support to OPERATION ALLIED FORCE in the Balkans.”

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

Outstanding Air Force Weather Company Grade Officer Of The Year: Capt Thomas J. Goulter, Jr., Weather Flight Commander, 12 OSS/OSW, Randolph AFB, Texas   

Outstanding Air Force Weather Senior Noncommissioned Officer Of The Year: SMSgt (Select) Ricky G. Keil, Manager, Global Weather Production Division, AFWA/XOGP, Offutt AFB, Nebraska

Outstanding Air Force Weather Noncommissioned Officer Of The Year – Pierce Award: SSgt Valerie A. Smith, 92 OSS/OSW, Fairchild AFB, Washington AK

Outstanding Air Force Weather Airman Of The Year – Dodson Award: SrA Tomika N. Redmond, OL-A 607 WS, Yongsan AIN, Korea

Outstanding Air Force Weather Civilian Of The Year: Herr Harald Strauss, USAFE Operational Weather Squadron (OWS), Sembach AB, Germany

  The five Outstanding individuals above also received the Air Weather Association John and Barbara Collens Annual Awards.  The AWA Chairman, on behalf of all AWA members, sent a congratulatory letter along with an AWA check for $100 to the supervisor of each of the five winners for presentation at a suitable ceremony.

Most Significant Technical Contribution -  Merewether Award: Lt Col Mary G. Lockhart and 1Lt James C. Weaver, 57 OSS/OSW, Nellis AFB, Nevada

Best Application Of Climatology - Zimmerman Award: Capt Matthew K. Doggett, Capt David A. McDaniel and Mr. Michael A. Squires,     Air Force Combat Climatology Center (AFCCC/DOC), Asheville, North Carolina

Most Outstanding Air Force Weather Individual Mobilization Augmentee  (IMA) - Spengler Award: Lt Col David I. Knapp, HQ AFWA/DNXT, Offutt AFB, Nebraska

Outstanding Weather Flight - Williams Award: 48th Weather Flight/Combat Weather Team, Royal Air Force Base Lakenheath, England
